""They Rise" marks the return of the inventor of the death metal growl himself, Kam Lee. His new band, Denial Fiend has my vote as the best new band. For those who are not aware. Denial Fiend are a supergroup featuring metal legends Kam Lee (MASSACRE, DEATH), Terry Butler (MASSACRE, DEATH, SIX FEET UNDER), Curtis Beeson (NASTY SAVAGE), and punk guitarist Sam Williams (DOWN BY LAW, PSEUDO HEROS). They play a horror punk influenced brand of old school death metal that could be summed up as "Horror Metal."The material is very original and well played. A lot of the lyrics focus on old horror movies. They Rise is very thrashy and brutal (but not br00tal). The music is very energetic and even epic at times. The riffs are very catchy. Sam Williams is a very good riff writter and deserves much praise. Kam's vocals are perfect. His growl is still better than everyone elses. Which is good to know considering how long it's been since he's recorded an album. He also sticks to the old ways of growling that he invented back in the early 80's. Curtis Beeson's drumming is very good and he doesen't go into long blasturbation sessions. Which is very refreshing from all the generic modern br00tal death metal bands. Denial Fiend do things the old fashion way without coming off as a retro metal band. There isn't a single flaw on this record. They Rise is modern day classic and hands down the best album of 2007. It also comes with a bonus DVD that features interviews with the band and the history of Florida death metal. If you can't enjoy this, you aren't metal."
