"The name Deströyer 666 isn't exactly brilliant, and I thought it would turn out to be some rather generic extremist black or death band, but it is anything but. The music of Destroyer 666 is a lupine chimera of the best elements of classic black, death, and thrash metal. It transcends metal genres and blends them all without hitting a lowest common denominator, and really embodies the spirit of metal.Unchain the Wolves leans a bit to the black side of metal, but isn't recognizable as such, or really anything else that has been defined so far. The production is quite raw and grim, but it doesn't obfuscate any of the elements and makes this album feel particularly savage. The vocals are raspy, and the guitar is reminiscient of early Bathory at times, but mostly goes in all kinds of new directions, blending thrashiness and melodicism, tying them together with wild, dissonant solos. The drumming is great, and the basswork is bruising. The songs don't fall into the hypnoticism of black metal, the chaos of death metal, or the relentlessness of thrash, but are laid out in a more epic manner. Nevertheless, they manage to have some excellent, classic anthemic moments as well. The lyrics are barbaric in sentiment, yet are intelligently and creatively written. They're blatantly offensive to all followers of slave morality, praising the avatar of Satan in tableaus of blasphemous evil and lashing out at both the church and modern politically correct egalitarian dogma, with lines proclaiming such things as "I'm not ashamed to be white!" There are too many quotable lines in the album, and I'm afraid if I listed one, which I'm tempted to, I'd have to list many more. This album is undoubtedly an overlooked legend. If you're a fanatic of thrash, black, or death, or just metal in general, you must get this, it is a necessity."

SADISTIK EXEKUTION - We Are Death...Fukk You!

Osmose Productions 1994
1. Suspiral 02:432. Burnt Offerings 01:503. Internal Klok 04:444. Mathematikus 00:355. Electrokution 02:066. Lest We Forget 02:067. Evoke War Vomit 04:288. Astral Abortis 06:399. Ipsissimus 04:0510. Hades Valley 06:46Total playing time 36:02
"BLOODY ORGY!DEATHLY NIGHT!SCREAMING BLOOOD!SADISTIK HELL!Those for lines from “Elektrokution” basically sum up why Sadistik Exekution is so fucking awesome. No other band could string together the same few words over an album and not sound like a complete tool doing, no other band could write a song where nearly a third of it is the vocalist screaming “fucking shit” over and over while a creepy as hell bass line runs under it. No, Sadistik Exekution are unique in approach and sound, and “We are Death... Fukk You!” is where the band really started to cement their reputation as one of the loopiest black/death metal bands ever.Right from the opening of the album, you’re hit with vocalist Rok’s vocals screaming over ultra-fast blasting and guitar work, and it pretty much sums up this album as a whole, except for those, you know, DOOMY songs. Yes, shock horror to everyone who reads this, Sadistik Exekution writes slow songs! The band had previously tried it with the opening of “Agonizing the Dead” on previous album “The Magus,” yet here the slow parts are extended out to a whole song on “Evoke War Vomit.” Despite the idea of a slow Sadistik Exekution song being so ludicrous to the point of being almost laughable (they did actually have more slow songs on later albums), “Evoke War Vomit” comes off as “scary.” Perhaps scary is not the right word, but this one song is sure as hell freakier than anything Wormphleghm or Senthil could do, and simply proves that there is more to this band than meets the eye. However, for the most part this album is fast. As in, really fast. This isn’t a band that will cause your parents to rip out your earphones or turn off your computer/C.D player. No, Sadistik Exekution are more likely to destroy the mental stability of anyone and everyone around you, causing them to adopt the foetal position and rock to and fro slowly until they die while you enjoy yourself oblivious to the Armageddon happening around you. Wherever you skip to in this C.D (excluding the previously mentioned “Evoke War Vomit”) you will either be hit with a noisy interlude or outro (“Burnt Offerings,” “Lest We Forget” and “Hades Valley”) or 1000km/h blasting accompanied by screaming that makes your retro-thrash band sound like a bunch of pussies raised on warm milk (“Mathematikus” and “Internal Klok”). Notice I said km/h; this is AUSTRALIAN metal, ya bastards!Speaking of “Internal Klok,” that’s perhaps the song that bears the most similarities to the band’s work on “K.A.O.S” and the “Fukk” albums. In fact, astute listeners will notice that the song has the words “We are death… Fukk you!” screamed in there by the one and only Rok. Oh, who am I kidding? Everybody will notice it, because in true Sadistik fashion, it’s incredibly blatantly obvious…AND AWESOME.As much as I’d like to rant on about how amazingly great “We are Death… Fukk You!” is, this album does have its downsides. Due to the fact that it’s composed of one item which appears to have begged release as an EP, plus a couple of other things (Osmose actually took the main “EP” part and added on a couple of singles/demos/whatevers on the end to make the album), the sound and production on the album varies significantly. Up to “Elektrokution” the sound stays the same, with a guitar and vocal heavy mix and good recording quality. After the interlude of “Lest We Forget,” the sound changes for the first time. “Evoke War Vomit” is still guitar heavy, but everything sounds slightly rawer, especially the drums. The next song (“Astral Abortis”) is yet even rawer with less emphasis on the guitars and louder vocals. Obviously not content on staying on the same sound for more than one song, “Ipsissimus” changes sound again, sounding slightly rawer and more “blackened” in sound than the previous song. This frequent change of sound is perhaps detrimental to the flow of the album. While all the songs are top-notch, the differing recording quality leaves a hollow feeling after listening, as if something is missing. It’s a shame really, because this could have been released as an EP and ended up as one of the greatest EPs ever.Musically, the “SadEx quirks” of later albums start to appear here on this album. “Mathematikus” features one of Dave Slave’s trademark bass solos (which should actually be trademarked, they’re that cool) as well as the first screaming of “FUKK!” (the previously mentioned line in “Internal Klok”). Sloth’s drumming focuses more and more on the intense blasting that would later dominate the “Fukk” albums and Reverand Kriss Hades’ signature guitar work starts to dominate the overall feel of the album. More technical than it’s predecessor, “We are Death…” is also more chaotic. It’s where Sadistik Exekution started to truly carve their own little niche on metal, and despite the differing sound bump, I love it.WE ARE DEATH… FUUUUUUKK YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!"

SADISTIK EXEKUTION - The Magus

Vampire 1991

1. Transneobathasaurikaldelusions Of The Unknown 01:182. The Magus 04:043. Agonizing the Dead 03:144. Sadistikly Exekuted 05:525. Cautness Darling Blood 04:006. Possessed Haemorrhage 04:327. Lupercalia 03:268. Spirits are Komming 04:419. I'll Kill You Bastard 04:13

"In my mind, Possessed’s “Seven Churches” is, and always will be the first death metal album. Unfortunately, some misguided fools think that this is disputable, and that the first “real” death metal albums didn’t show up until 1987 with bands such as Death.Get fukked! If “Seven Churches” isn’t the first death metal album, “The Magus” fucking is! Sure it wasn’t actually released until 1991, but if that’s an issue you can just kill yourself now. It’s the same thing as Repulsion really, recorded in ’86 yet released in ’89. “The Magus” is a forgotten classic. “The Magus” is the album that proves that Australia is fucking better than you. Chaotic? Sort of. Brutal? Sort of. Hell raising black infused death metal? Oh yeah. This is “Altars of Madness” before “Altars of Madness,” “I.N.R.I” before “I.N.R.I.”In fact, it’s almost disturbing just how developed this is for it’s time. Don’t think this is just some thrash/black/death album, this is fully fledged blackened death metal. “Altars of Madness” is really the best comparison, and the two albums are very, very similar. Rok sounds like an eviler Dave Vincent, which combined with some heavy vocal reverb makes for some very, very haunting stuff. Think “Altars,” and add “I.N.R.I” and “Deathcrush.” That’s what “The Magus” sounds like, and if you’re reading this review as a black or death metal fan and thinking, “this album sounds like it kicks arse!” then you’d be damn correct in your assumption. This is insane for 1986, and even by today’s standards it’s still damn heavy/brutal/evil.Many of the stylistic quirks of Sadistik Exekution that would later take their complete form in the chaotic maelstrom of the “Fukk” albums are yet to manifest in “The Magus.” Perhaps this leaves this as the most “accessible” Sadistik Exekution album, as much as I hate to admit such a thing is actually possible. The ultra-fast bass solos are absent, the random stringing of the words “fuck,” “cunt” and “AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH” are not here and the faster than fast guitar and drum work is lacking. Again though, don’t think I’m saying this is some “weak” album, because it’s still harder than 99% of the stuff you’ll ever hear. If you were repulsed by Rok calling you a “fukkin’ fukkin’ fukkin’ poof” on “Organized Sadistik Abuse” (from “Fukk”) then you might just be able to enjoy the band through this album.Production wise, this album is awesome. Everything is audible, with a particular emphasis placed on Rok’s vocals and Dave Slave’s bass lines. The guitars are still nice and loud, as are the drums, providing for a well-rounded, heavy sound. It’s slightly rawer than “Altars of Madness” and black metal fans will feel right at home with the sound here. The production once again provides another “Altars – I.N.R.I” link, and it sound suitably, as the band would put it, fucked up.You know, everytime someone bags Sadistik Exekution for their musicianship, I feel like breaking something. Let’s just ignore Dave’s insane bass skills (there are videos on YouTube of him performing at an art exhibition, check them out if you like bass at all!) and Sloth’s incredibly fast drum work. No matter how it may appear, Sadistik Exekution is a technically proficient and tight band. While “The Magus” is the simplest of their works, it’s no “Transilvanian Hunger,” and the occasional flirtation with some slightly more interesting drum patterns or guitar riffs does wonders for the album. Check out track six, “Lupercalia,” at 4:11 into the song. It’s a riff that sounds incredibly weird and out of place, but at the same time fits perfectly. I’d also like to note here that Sloth’s drumming features a somewhat primitive blasting technique that sounds very good in context of the album. It’s only mid-fast paced, but the effect is prominent due to the somewhat high position in the mix the drums possess (again it must be stressed, nothing overpowers another in the mix). Everything the band does here fits like the potato bake in a potato bake and sausage sandwich (a particular delicacy that I’ve invented, next time you have a BBQ, try it! It’ll be the best moment of your life!).Sadistik Exekution occupies one of the largest positions in Australian metal history, and in reality should occupy a place in world metal history. Here is one of the earliest death metal bands, overlooked for reasons unfathomable to me. Unfortunately, Sadistik Exekution are too good for you for that. While you go listen to your pathetic “technical brutal death metal,” I’ll listen to this album (and the subsequent follow-ups) and know that whatever you listen to, it’ll never be as aggressive, brutal and plain FUKKING AWESOME as this band and their music. Perhaps that’s a good thing, if every person in the world listened to these guys it’d be one mightily fucked up world. I’ve really tried to keep the use of the word “fuck/fukk” in this review to a minimum, but even this, the least chaotic and mentally insane of Sadistik Exekution’s albums invokes such a strong feeling of absolute patriotism in me that I couldn’t help myself. Ultimately though, one thing is fact: This album is forgotten history and this band is fucking awesome.FUCK!YOU!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL!"

""They Rise" marks the return of the inventor of the death metal growl himself, Kam Lee. His new band, Denial Fiend has my vote as the best new band. For those who are not aware. Denial Fiend are a supergroup featuring metal legends Kam Lee (MASSACRE, DEATH), Terry Butler (MASSACRE, DEATH, SIX FEET UNDER), Curtis Beeson (NASTY SAVAGE), and punk guitarist Sam Williams (DOWN BY LAW, PSEUDO HEROS). They play a horror punk influenced brand of old school death metal that could be summed up as "Horror Metal."The material is very original and well played. A lot of the lyrics focus on old horror movies. They Rise is very thrashy and brutal (but not br00tal). The music is very energetic and even epic at times. The riffs are very catchy. Sam Williams is a very good riff writter and deserves much praise. Kam's vocals are perfect. His growl is still better than everyone elses. Which is good to know considering how long it's been since he's recorded an album. He also sticks to the old ways of growling that he invented back in the early 80's. Curtis Beeson's drumming is very good and he doesen't go into long blasturbation sessions. Which is very refreshing from all the generic modern br00tal death metal bands. Denial Fiend do things the old fashion way without coming off as a retro metal band. There isn't a single flaw on this record. They Rise is modern day classic and hands down the best album of 2007. It also comes with a bonus DVD that features interviews with the band and the history of Florida death metal. If you can't enjoy this, you aren't metal."

Bonesaw from the frozen north wastes of Scotland may be less familiar.
